Answer 1:

Push and pull boundary is the virtual separating line that divides the supply chain implementing the push strategy at some point and the supply chain implementing the pull strategy at some other point.

Examples of Push and Pull boundary is:

1. Toyota implements just in time strategy for the production of the final product and for stocking the raw material but in anticipation of the demand, it always keeps some inventory of the raw material available with it. Keeping the availability of the raw material and producing the final product when the demand arises is an example of push and pull boundary.

2. In a life of the student, he always keeps the stock of books available with him in anticipation of appearing in the examination. This can be considered as the push strategy. While starting studying when he obtains the time table of the test is an example of a pull strategy.

3. A restaurant always keeps the stock of raw material available with them in anticipation of the demand, but starts producing the delicacies when the customer arrives at the service point.

4. Railway department always keep special trains ready for providing the service to the travellers in anticipation of the increase in the number of demand of travel to a particular destination but runs these trains only when the sufficient number of customers purchase the tickets.

5. Hospital keeps the number of beds ready for the patient along with all the required equipment needed for offering the necessary treatment but uses these beds and equipment when the customers arrive in the service facility and sometimes even order the needed number of equipment to treat the increasing number of patients.

Answer 2:

Challenges that would be faced in order to ensure the continuous flow of the supply chain are:

1. Flow of material has been affected as the government of various countries has imposed lockdown in their region. Owing to this, the transport has been banned across the countries and states for the prevention of spreading of the disease. Because of the ban over transportation, there would be difficulty in the sourcing of the material required for the manufacturing of the car. This would severely affect the supply chain and if the situation of lockdown continues for a longer period of time, the company may witness the failure of the supply chain of the company.

2. Functioning of the various departments including the production function has been severely affected because, with the effect of pandemic and lockdown, human resources were restricted from moving from one place to the other. As a result of this, human resources were not able to come to the manufacturing facility. Because of the non-availability of human resources, it would be impossible for the manufacturing facility to continue its operation. In response to this challenge, the company needs to take permission from the state for allowing the certain suitable number of human resources to come to the company for the prevention of the loss. The company should ensure that they would be maintaining all the necessary prevention measures in place and would not allow the person suspected to have contacted the disease.

3. Due to transportation inabilities, the supply of the goods to the destination of the customers were hauled. In order to overcome these challenges, the company can take the pre-order from the customers and would promise them that as soon as the lockdown gets over, the car will be delivered to them safely.

Answer 3:

Tracking and tracing of the goods and material while being in the transit is highly important because of the following reasons:

1. Tracking and tracing of the goods provide its actual location so that it could be communicated with the stakeholder who is going to receive those goods.

2. Tracking and tracing of the goods help in ascertaining that the shipment of the goods is at appropriate time. Any delay in the shipment could then be communicated with the receiving party.

3. Tracking and tracing helps in confirming that the goods are in the good state and condition.

4. Tracking and tracing of the goods and fleet also helps in ascertaining that there is no theft of the goods.

5. Tracking and tracing of the raw material helps in planning for the next activities in the supply chain of the company.

An example of the facility of tracking and tracing of the goods is that available in the Amazons website. When a customer places an order, he is provided with the current shipment details regularly in his customer page.
